jazzCittern™ ModeExplorer is on it's way!

(March 1, 2009)

Well, what in the world is a cittern?

It's simply the future of stringed-plectrum instruments! It's got double-string courses like mandolin family instruments. It's tuned in fifths, kindof like a Mandocello and Octave Mandolin together. (Or a Cello and Violin, if you like.) It's about guitar-sized, and plays a lot like that type of instrument. BUT - If you know anything about fifths-tuning you know there many significant advantages over, say, guitar's 'old standard tuning.'

In fact, there are so many benefits that when applied to guitar, we call it New Standard Tuning (a.k.a. NST) - Which is nothing more than a good ol' Cittern with a sixth course on the top.

Blazing this trail, the jazzCittern™ ModeExplorer opens up new vistas in Cittern, Guitar, and 5-string Mandolin, Bandolim, and other instruments tuned this way. Count on the weathered sherpa of numerous fifths-tuned expeditions is here to guide you safely from summit to peak. And back again.

Mando ModeExplorer 2.0.* enhancements and magnachops ModeExplorer 2.0.* enhancements are released! - Feb 6, 2007

We're always enhancing the ModeExplorers, and registered owners know they can upgrade.

We've had discussions with our friends in music about chord naming, chromatics and accidentals, and when do all those double-sharps and double-flats actually obscure the music and when do they help. The latest enhancements include what we call 'enharmonic reduction'. That's a fancy way of saying we give you the strict, formal, technically correct names for chords as well as the more informal names you'll see in chord charts. So you'll know when your B ma7 is a Cb ma7 and your G# ma7 is really an F### ma7!
